1998 SLUG Queen
Back in 1998 Pete Theophanes got on stage and lip synched Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
Pete won and was crowned “Queen Peterella” on the strength of his answer to a ridiculous math problem. His wit came through loud and clear, even though he communicates by casting his eyes toward letters on a board because of cerebral palsy. Queen Peterella has a sizable entourage, and attributes his victory to being “witty, pretty and smart.”
Queen Peterella is a slug who loves clay. He works as a potter with Alternative Work Concepts with pieces sold and displayed at the White Lotus Gallery and the Eugene Saturday Market.
