Double queen

1989 was a tough year to run for Slug Queen. There were 4 outstanding candidates that year—all very slugworthy. But when Karen ”Slimelda” Myers, backed by two Groucho Marx clones (the Family Slime) stunned the hall at the Kerns Art Center with her “rockapella” version of “I Want To Slime Ya Baby”, the crowd went wild. Before the evening was out we had our Queen Slimelda crowned.

As it turns out, Queen Slimelda was “Miss Run of the Millrace” prior to securing SLUG Queen status, but she said, “this year I have achieved the zenith of royalty—Slugdom”.

It has been noted that Eugene City Brewery sponsored the 1989 coronation—but the contestant and Old Queens steered clear of all beer.
